Boon: Instantaneous liberation upon shedding the mortal coil. Direct absorption into Shiva's divine light without any bardo, waiting period, or intermediate karmic trial.
Varanasi / Avimukta Kshetra
"वरुणायाश्च अस्याश्च मध्ये वाराणसी पुरी। अत्र हि जन्तोर् उर्ध्वम् उत्क्रामतो रुद्रस् तारकं ब्रह्म व्याचष्टे॥"
— स्कन्दपुराण (३०.६९), कूर्मपुराण (३१.४३)
Boon: Sāyujya Mukti — the soul completely merges into Lord Shiva's divine form. Complete destruction of the cycle of rebirth. The land is never destroyed even during Mahapralaya.
Panchakroshi Sacred Mandala
"पञ्चक्रोशीपरिमाणं क्षेत्रं तत्सर्वकामदम्। मरणे यत्र जन्तूनां तारकं पदमव्ययम्॥"
— स्कन्दपुराण (काशीखण्ड अध्याय २६ & ५५)
Boon: Taraka Mantra Mukti. Lord Shiva whispers Rama-Nama into the right ear of the departed soul at the cosmic threshold, elevating them beyond samsara.
Why Lanka & Sankat Mochan are 100% inside Kashi
The Geography of the Interfluvial Inland Doab (असि-वरुणा अंतर्वेद)
Many assume that Vārāṇasī consists solely of the riverfront steps between Assi Ghat and Namo Ghat. However, ancient Puranic shastras state:
Varuna and Assi are independent tributary rivers, NOT merely ghat names:
- River Varuṇā: Originates over 100 km away in Mailhan Lake (Bhadohi), winding northeast past Rameshwar and Cantt to meet the Ganga at Adikeshav / Namo Ghat.
- River Asi: Originates ~11 km away in Kandwa Pond (near Kardameshwar Mahadev) and curves eastward into Assi Ghat.
The Inland Landmass Reality
Because the Assi River runs south of Lanka, Sankat Mochan Temple, and BHU North Gate on its way to Assi Ghat, the entire western landmass containing:
...sits completely inside the holy cradle between the rivers! Every inch of this ground is endowed with the boon of Sāyujya Mukti.
